Mission Work in India

Beginning in the late 1980’s the Laurel congregation began support of Brother Mark Aseervatham preacher at the Bhopal Church of Christ in the Madra Predesh state of India. In the early 1990’s this support included the purchase of land and construction of a new church building. The congregation is now called the White House church of Christ. Brother Aseervatham and his wife live above the church building where about 60-70 members meet for worship.

This congregation in the Semra Kala neighborhood of Bhopal is situated near a base of the Indian military which gives Brother Aseervatham opportunities to preach to the soldiers from all over India who are assigned to the base. Brother Aseervatham is also heavily involved in World Bible School (WBS) studies via mail with many students throughout India. He and his wife have distributed tracts in hospitals in Bhopal as they minister to the needs of medical patients.

The challenge of evangelism in India is great. The country is largely composed of Hindus and has a Government that endorses Hinduism. Brother Aseervatham and his family have faced threats and persecution of many forms but continue to do the Lord’s work.
